But from what I can tell, most artists don't draw like this. That is, they don't keep their eyes on the subject without ever looking at their drawing. Moreover, the instructors even acknowledge that the drawing isn't going to look very good when using this method. So, given that, what's the point of this method? I mean, what are you suppose to learn from it?

She reports back problems and frequently has to take breaks from working to rest her back, even while she's drawing sitting straight up. Her normal position is when she has the chair tilted back, sitting in a semi-lotus position while either hunched or sitting straight up. Does anyone recommend a specific kind of chair that has an adjustable backrest to it that might help her?

I draw all types of forms: life, machinery, landscapes, etc. If I have plenty of references I can produce something half way decent even though it is a fairly slow process from using all the references. My brain remembers what objects look like, but when I try to draw from memory, the outcome is pretty bad. I can't seem to develop the muscle memory. What can I do to overcome this ?
