its actually very useful to have the pencil sharpened that way. I myself do so when drawing. This is because it makes it easier to use the graphite covering different amount of areas depending on the angle. I actually sharpen the pencil so it has a square tip (i use the square bit to mark lines and the flat bit for colouring).
